Those who manage hospitals and healthcare facilities have many energy-related concerns, each of which demand attention in order to help ensure that efficiencies are maintained and budget parameters are met. That can include everything from utility rate volatility to fuel cost increases to maintenance of environmental conditions, which of course requires energy and budget. In short, balancing the necessity for cost containment with a desire to provide the highest level of healthcare possible—the primary requirement of Joint Commission regulations—can make a key issue like increasing energy efficiency a challenge.

This case study highlights Matan Marom's career, as well as, his recent Energy Solutions project where he managed a comprehensive energy study at OakRidge National Laboratory (ORNL). This customized in-depth study was designed to identify cost-effective energy-saving and resource-reducing strategies throughout the lab while ensuring full compliance with Executive Order 13423 and DOE Orders 430.2 B and 450.1. The study satisfied the requirements of several directives, including:

  • Energy Star Portfolio Manager
  • High Performance Sustainable Buildings
  • LEED for Existing Buildings O&M
  • Federal Energy Management Program Commissioning Guidance

PowerLogic Tenant Metering software service pack update
An update is available for the PowerLogic Tenant Metering Software (TMS). This service pack is for TMS1.5. Registered users must have TMS 1.5 installed. The TMS1.5 SP1 can be downloaded from the PowerLogic.com website under downloads.

Schneider Electric donates $10,000 for Earth Day
In April, Schneider Electric sent out an email inviting customers and employees to cast a vote to determine which of four environmentally conscious charitable organizations would receive a $10,000 donation in recognition of Earth Day's 40th Anniversary. The response was astounding! Nearly 3,500 votes were cast, with an overwhelming majority going to the Alliance to Save Enegy (ASE). Congratulations to the ASE for becoming the winning recipient of the donation.
